History of Western Philosophy (Volume 8): Modern Anglo-American Analytic Philosophy (Part 1 and Part 2)

Author: Ye Xiushan, General Editor-in-Chief; Jiang Yi, Editor-in-Chief
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2005-10-01
Features: The authors have carefully selected key points in the overall structure and content of the book, particularly focusing on the contemporary development of analytic philosophy. Fortunately, the title "Academic Edition" provides the authors with greater freedom in their selection, while still ensuring that necessary details are covered in line with historical development. However, the authors hope readers do not view this volume solely as a "textbook" of modern analytic philosophy (though it is not actually suitable as one), but rather as a specialized study on the history of analytic philosophy. The final decision to name this volume Modern Anglo-American Analytic Philosophy was made because "analytic philosophy" is no longer a term for a doctrine or school of thought in modern Anglo-American philosophy. Instead, it is more of a general summary of the overall research methods and intellectual orientations that constitute Anglo-American philosophy, to the extent that for Anglo-American philosophers, "analytic philosophy" is virtually synonymous with "philosophy." Without a doubt, the title of this volume does not mean we have completely excluded philosophical ideas in contemporary Anglo-American philosophy that differ from or even oppose analytic philosophy. On the contrary, we examine these diverse ideas in relation to analytic philosophy, attempting to reveal the pluralistic characteristics of modern Anglo-American philosophical development through this approach.
