Features: The "jinxiang" format originated in the Southern Qi Dynasty and flourished during the Song Dynasty. From the Ming and Qing dynasties onwards, new designs emerged. The term "jinxiang" refers to small portable boxes used in the past to store handkerchiefs and other miscellaneous items. In ancient times, travelers and scholars would read at any moment, whether traveling or resting, and always carried books with them. Thus, the size of these books was reduced to fit into the jinxiang box, making them portable for travel and easy to browse while resting. Leisurely, they could be enjoyed at any moment. Although the jinxiang book is considered a minor member of the book world, it upholds the principle of "learning and practicing at the right time" as emphasized by Confucius, and its contributions are significant. Unfortunately, in modern times, with the influence of Western culture, books have shifted to Western-style bindings, becoming increasingly elaborate and heavy. Carrying them is like a burden for oxen, and reading in bed becomes difficult even for a short time. Worse still, some are outwardly luxurious but hollow inside, with heavy boxes and exquisite covers, misleading readers and further removing them from the true essence of reading. The Ancient Society's jinxiang book series was created with purpose, learning from the successes and shortcomings of jinxiang books throughout history, aiming to return to simplicity and elegance, promoting national heritage: the design should be small yet complete; the price should be affordable yet select the best versions; the selection should be appropriate, with a focus on personality, rhyme, and charm; the arrangement should be logical, and both individual purchases and collections should satisfy readers. Additionally, with fragrant paper, colorful printing, meticulous proofreading, and dynamic layouts, this series demonstrates great effort and dedication to small books, making them irresistible upon first sight. Mountains need not be high to be sacred; books need not be expensive to possess charm. Therefore, the series is named "Shuyunlou," and refined gentlemen will surely appreciate its essence. This is the preface.
