Durey (1832-1883), born on January 6, 1832, in Strasbourg, France, is widely recognized as one of the greatest illustrators of the past few centuries. From a young age, he aspired to become an illustrator. He was skilled in sketching and became a master entirely through self-taught methods, demonstrating extraordinary artistic talent from the very beginning. At the age of 15, his first major work, Hercules' Deeds, was published, capturing widespread attention. He continued to produce a substantial number of works thereafter. He died of a stroke in 1883.
In 16th-century Spain, eccentric and exaggerated chivalric novels flourished. A noble gentleman named Quijano became obsessed with these absurd tales, dreaming of becoming a true knight. He mounted a lean horse, armed with an old pike and a rusty shield, and embarked on his "adventure." Along the way, he made a fool of himself and experienced a series of absurd and comical events.
