Publishing Date: 2005-04-01
Features: This book is compiled based on all the materials excavated jointly by the numismatic and archaeological communities in China. It is rich in data and highly credible. The book employs numismatic methods to conduct a comparative analysis and research on the molds of the "Yonglong Tongbao" coins. The main content is divided into four parts: illustrations, mold rubbings, the casting techniques and varieties of the coin molds, and archaeological excavation reports and related writings. The book is compiled from the following aspects:
1. The illustrations section includes 186 photographs of authentic coin molds, aiming for full-scale reproduction and covering various varieties and designs as much as possible, with appropriate grading. The selected molds combine aesthetic value, cultural significance, and rarity, presenting the original appearance of the coin molds from multiple angles. Additionally, there are three photographs of counterfeit coin molds for comparison. Furthermore, 29 photographs are included to authentically document the scientific excavation of the Five Dynasties coin mint site in Quanzhou and the grand occasion of the Numismatic Society of China's symposium on Yonglong Tongbao coin molds. In total, 218 photographs.
2. The mold rubbings section includes 250 mold rubbings and corresponding coin die rubbings, all meticulously collected from various varieties. It not only features original rubbings of the molds but also includes cast coin models made by pressing oil clay into the mold cavities, followed by rubbings of these models for comparison with the original mold rubbings. This fully demonstrates the correspondence between coins and molds, enabling in-depth study of the molds and appreciation of the coins.
3. We have conducted preliminary research on the casting techniques and varieties of the Yonglong Tongbao coin molds and their related topics, and have for the first time publicly published all research findings and personal insights to date in this book.
4. The appendix includes archaeological excavation reports, an index of writings on coin molds from various dynasties, identification of genuine and counterfeit Yonglong Tongbao coin molds, and a summary of the Numismatic Society of China's symposium on Yonglong Tongbao coin molds, all for reference by readers.
