Features: This book is a biography of the renowned mathematician Paul Erd?s. Erd?s was one of the greatest mathematicians in the 20th century and undoubtedly one of the most eccentric and unique. Born into a Hungarian Jewish family renowned for its mathematical talent and a scientific elite, Erd?s was known as a child prodigy. At the age of 17, he published his first mathematical paper. Throughout his life, he collaborated with over 450 people and published more than 1,500 research papers. Erd?s faced many hardships in his life. As a Jew, he was persecuted by the Nazis and forced to flee abroad. In the 1950s, he was suspected of being a communist sympathizer and pro-China due to correspondence with Hua Luogeng, leading to his expulsion from the United States by McCarthyists. He spent the rest of his life wandering the world. Erd?s remained unmarried and had no fixed occupation, but he dedicated his life to science. He worked 18 to 19 hours a day, traveling all year round to discuss mathematical problems with colleagues around the world. His mind was constantly filled with mathematical problems, theorems, conjectures, and proofs. The book also introduces some of the world's famous mathematical problems that Erd?s was concerned with, such as the Goldbach Conjecture, Fermat's Last Theorem, and many anecdotes from the history of mathematics. Erd?s was a scientist with a sense of justice. He loved his country, his mother, and his children. For him, mathematics was his life and everything. He had an open mind and a rich, diverse life. Professor Wang Yuan, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a famous mathematician, personally participated in and organized the translation of this book. It is a precious gift from the older generation of scientists to young math enthusiasts.
