New machines bring new culture and new ways of life. While playing with a digital camera, I suddenly realized that the revolution it brings goes far beyond photography! You can take photos as you wish—close-ups or wide shots, instantly delete unwanted shots, skip printing, and directly view them on the computer, create CDs, or compile photo albums. "Film" is no longer disposable; you can fill it up, delete, replace, and repeat endlessly. This convenient operation excites you with endless enthusiasm. Your excitement stems from the immediate results of your actions and the perfection of the images, with no regrets—or if there are, they can be easilyed in the next action. There is no such thing as disappointment, as continuous action breeds hope. Yes, yes, technological revolutions are never just about technology. The digital age is a brand-new era, where enjoying happiness and the present moment is the ultimate goal of life. Since happiness is so easily attainable and controllable, does it not seem particularly shallow, easily replaceable, and in need of new quick ways to pursue it? Expression, writing, thus naturally become two parts. One part is a of the present life and the present self. The other part is the persistent effort to retrieve those lingering emotions—those profound, melancholic, illusory, and superfluous feelings that cannot be "digitally" erased.
