Features: The convergence of love themes and lyrical forms undergoes a subtle process. In early folk qu lyrics, the proportion of male and female emotions and their influence in actual life were quite significant. However, after the late Tang and Five Dynasties literati began to engage in lyric writing, love-themed and flower-and-bamboo poems rapidly expanded. They became indispensable accompaniments at imperial and aristocratic banquets, with young gentlemen hoping that beautiful singers, through their heartfelt words, would fully display the enchanting grace of women. The demand for pleasure led male authors to enthusiastically depict the "refined elegance of silk and incense," even expressing emotions entirely in a woman's voice. While seemingly creating sensuality out of thin air, they unconsciously revealed their own feelings; yet when directly expressing emotional experiences, they completely concealed the specific circumstances, giving the works a universal emotional appeal. The dual stance of the creative subject inadvertently enriched the depth of the works. After the separation of lyrics and music in later generations, the deliberate pursuit of subtle and hidden artistic realms likely originated from this, and the essence of love lyrics was thus forged. After the Song Dynasty, the themes of lyrics expanded once again, with all aspects of life beyond love becoming subjects of expression. However, the lineage of love lyrics continued, as it remains the best channel for venting emotions: its indirect expression can serve to conceal the truth, allowing authors to break free from traditional ethical and moral constraints. As a result, in the love lyrics of male authors, women are frequently the recurring subjects—they often use a woman's love for a man to express their own emotions; even when using the male perspective, they often describe a woman's longing for them. They also narrate the misfortunes of women in love, sympathizing with their devotion and sensitivity. This is not only related to the creative traditions since the Five Dynasties but also indicates that, as men, they firmly believed themselves to be the masters of emotions. Only external factors were a cause for concern: the hardships of life, the need to seek livelihood or pursue official posts, forcing them to endure the sorrow of separation in "morning wind and lingering moon" or "willow dusk and flower gloom." The unpredictability of fate, leading to the sudden demise of beautiful women, turned pain into utter despair. Beyond this, there was no modern man's frustration or confusion in gender relationships, no tangled calculations or anxieties about gain and loss. Before you are appropriately composed images, from which you can sense the changes of seasons, admire the posture and expressions of beautiful women, and savor the joy or sorrow conveyed by the works. These will make you lose yourself, deepen your connection with nature, and also gain insight into the depths of your own heart. Love lyrics written directly by women naturally evoke even greater anticipation. After the emergence of figures like Li Qingzhao and Zhu Shuzhen during the Song Dynasty, people finally heard the authentic voices of women in love. Li Qingzhao, from a noble family, possessed an inherent elegance, with the longing for her husband as the unchanging theme of her love lyrics. Zhu Shuzhen, on the other hand, was a less "conventional" woman of the inner quarters. Her lyrics were not merely reflections of marital life. Regardless, they revealed the oppression, distress, and unease unseen in the male world, while the lightness and sincerity of women's emotions prevented their works from becoming dull, monotonous, or overly rigid. Unfortunately, this natural and profound style of expressing love did not develop well. As the lyrical form became increasingly refined, women writers on the fringes of the literary world, in their efforts to distinguish their works from love lyrics, became even more devoted to following the mainstream, resulting in their reluctance to elaborate on love themes. In the span of three hundred poems, the winding traces of classical love lyrics over a thousand years are outlined: there are the revelations of delicate and sensitive souls, the unrestrained brilliance of sharp and free spirits; the soul-enthralling obsession of a lifetime, and the heart-stirring infatuation at first sight; the profound tenderness, elegant richness, and exquisite density, as well as the playful wit, colloquial straightforwardness, and rustic simplicity; masterpieces that embody both form and spirit, and unforgettable works by unknown authors. Like a treasured secret manual, once revealed to the world, it opens endlessly, and our words are but a beginning.
