Features: This series of books inherits and carries forward the excellent tradition of publishing popular literature by Shanghai Guji Press over its forty-six years of operation. It also gathers various positive and negative experiences from multiple perspectives: the works written by renowned scholars, their accessibility and depth, and the balance between knowledge and readability are its fundamental characteristics. Moreover, the integration of cultural traditions and modern features is a new focus. The recent research achievements of academia over the past half-century are presented in a simplified and socialized manner to cater to the reading habits of contemporary audiences. By transforming the unconventional into the elegant, it reveals a refined charm amidst simplicity, embodying its distinctive style.
In terms of structure, this series combines the strengths of the aforementioned two series. It seamlessly integrates the authors and their works (or introductions to the original works along with selected excerpts and analyses), creating a harmonious interplay between the whole and the parts. It achieves a balance between a broad perspective and meticulous accumulation. This series is also an expansion and simplification of the previous two. It will follow the literary classics by introducing classic works in history and philosophy. In terms of variety, it is streamlined to include thirty literary works, ten historical works, and ten philosophical works, totaling fifty. The aim is to present the essence of Chinese culture in a concise manner while adapting to the modern need for condensed knowledge. Through its three distinct yet interconnected formats, it caters to the diverse needs of a broad readership.
