Modern Chinese Bookbinding Selection -- Continuation of a Hundred Shadows of Book Covers

Author: Jiang Deming
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2001-07-01
Features: I didn’t expect that after the book was published, both acquaintances and strangers would widely praise it, and even newspapers and magazines overseas reprinted it. Many people also commented that the collection was still too extensive, wondering why I didn’t select a few more works. I’d like to explain: “Have you not seen that beyond the hundred shadows, I’ve already ‘freely offered’ 23 small frames in the ‘Appendix’? If I added more pages, wouldn’t the price be even higher?” Someone else advised me: “This book’s price isn’t even enough to see a half-concert by a pop star!” This book is limited to the author’s personal collection and does not emphasize historical research. Instead, it focuses on the value of editions and the artistic features of bookbinding. Of course, arranging the works in chronological order is still necessary, though it’s hard to avoid personal tastes and preferences. I just hope to lead readers into an artistic realm of simplicity and naturalness. I’ve included more works by Lu Xun and the book covers he designed, as well as the bookbinding designs by Ba Jin and Hu Feng. Their design styles are prominent and highly representative. Feng Zikai and Ding Cong’s works are slightly more numerous, but there are also creations by Situ Qiao, Cao Xinzhi, Yu Suoya, and Liao Bingxiang.
