Features: Owen was a prominent representative of British utopian socialism and was jointly known as one of the three great utopian socialists along with Saint-Simon and Fourier in France at the time. He accepted the views of materialist Enlightenment scholars and sharply criticized the capitalist system based on private ownership, advocating the establishment of worker and peasant cooperatives based on property public ownership. Volume I selects and translates his early works. Volume II collects Owen's important works from the 1930s to the 1940s, including "The Organization of New Harmony Community," "The New Moral World Book," and "The Revolution in Human Thought and Practice," as well as Owen's important speeches and letters. At the end of the volume, there are the essays "Robert Owen" by the famous Soviet scholar Volkhin and Feigina's "Biographical Sketch of Owen." Volume III includes "Autobiography," an important document for studying Owen's theories and life. The "Autobiography" narrates Owen's early life experiences, his childhood, his time as an apprentice and factory manager during his youth, and the events after he became the manager and shareholder of the large cotton mill in New Lanark in 1800. Owen pays special attention to narrating the origins and influences of his famous work "The New View of Society," his efforts in developing children's education, advocating labor legislation, and realizing his poor relief plan (i.e., building a utopian communist village), as well as the fame he enjoyed across Europe during his time in New Lanark.
