Publisher:
Publication Date: 1979-08-01
Features: The revision of this edition is guided by the principles, viewpoints, and methods of Marxism-Leninism and Mao Zedong Thought. According to the nature and tasks of the book, modern terms related to natural sciences, social sciences, and applied technologies from the old Dictionary of Chinese Characters were removed. The scope of entries generally ends with the Opium War (1840 AD), and some more common terms were added while a few non-word or overly obscure terms were deleted. Single-character entries are annotated with Pinyin and letters, and the ancient pronunciation Guoyun is also provided with its phonetic notation, along with the indication of phonetic categories. For characters not included in Guoyun, the phonetic notation from Jiyun or other rhyme books and character dictionaries is used. The definitions are concise and precise, with attention paid to the origins of words and their evolution in usage. The text of the title page has been reviewed, and the author, title, and volume are clearly marked.
