Features: This is an informative book. The first half is more focused on historical narration, emphasizing reviews of literary history. The second half is dedicated to discussing writing techniques, using examples from classical and modern literature to illustrate the strengths and weaknesses of writing. This approach not only gives readers a glimpse of the historical context but also provides rich material for reflection. It captures the key issues while remaining accessible, making it easy for general readers to learn and improve.
Regarding language and literature, I am an outsider. However, having once taught Chinese literature in middle school and occasionally engaging in literary pursuits, the bookstore entrusted me with the task of writing this book, and I casually agreed. When I started writing, I realized it was not an easy task. To do it well, thorough research and exploration are necessary, which requires ample time. In this turbulent era, I struggled to find solitude for dedicated study. Although the bookstore repeatedly extended the deadline, there were inevitably careless and superficial parts, and perhaps I myself would end up in a "writing clinic."
Nevertheless, I believe that even though this is spoken by someone who is unwell, what is discussed here still holds some value. In this small book, the first part consists of six chapters focused on narration, while the second part has eight chapters dedicated to writing techniques. My intention is to help readers gain a basic understanding of writing before delving into the methods. This approach not only makes it easier to start but also allows readers to grasp the core issues, avoiding confusion and aimlessness.
I know that some teachers, when lecturing, never take their eyes off the book or stop delivering moral lessons, and they are very serious. Similarly, some writers, when writing, immerse themselves in the classics of Yang Xiong and Ma Rong or draw inspiration from Zhuangzi and Sao, and they are also very serious. Although I have stood at the podium and wielded a pen, I am fully aware of the vast distance between me and them. Whether teaching or writing, I always approach it casually. As long as the audience or readers find it interesting, I hope it can bring them some benefit. This is the essence of my approach—straight to the point.
