Features: Chinese living color painting has a long history. The term "heavy color" first appeared in the Tang Dynasty in Zhang Xianyu's "Records of Famous Paintings of Past Generations." In modern times, "gongbi heavy color painting" is an evolution of ancient living color painting. In recent decades, while gongbi color painting has made many innovations in themes, forms, and techniques, the use of traditional high-quality pigments such as stone and metal colors has been completely replaced by low-end chemical pigments in tin tubes. Many painters are no longer familiar with or able to use traditional heavy color pigments. Now, restoring the name "heavy color" aims to revive the true tradition of color use and techniques in heavy color painting, allowing China's long-standing heavy color painting to develop a more distinctive national character in the trend of global cultural localization. Only in this way can Chinese painting stand independently in the world of art. The rise of modern heavy color painting not only brings new vitality to China's traditional heavy color painting but also presents a vibrant scene in the field we call "Yunnan painting." The tradition of Yunnan painting is rich and diverse, with literati ink painting being one of the important, but not the only, schools. The concept and practice of exclusive focus on ink painting are clearly worth reviewing and reflection. Exploring, innovating, and experimenting in the field of heavy color painting will undoubtedly make the creation of "Yunnan painting" even more diverse and colorful.
