Ancient Naxi Kingdom in Southwest China

Author: Joseph Rock (USA)
Publisher:
Publish Date: April 1, 1999
Features: This book, now made public, is one of the author's series of works on western China. It describes the regions inhabited by the Naxi people (known as Molo by the Han Chinese) in northwestern Yunnan, western Kangding, Tibet, and southwestern Sichuan. Strictly speaking, these areas have been geographically explored, but some regions in this area still include places that are rarely known, with at most two or three Europeans (including the author) having visited them, such as the five places in southwestern Sichuan. The historical part of this book is based on many original Chinese texts, and it is difficult to list them all. In the notes and the references appended to the book, readers can see the Chinese historical texts quoted and translated in this book. Perhaps this cannot fully satisfy the readers' wishes, but for those familiar with Chinese geography and historical documents, it is not difficult to find these historical texts. Of course, many local gazetteers quoted in the book may only be found in my personal collection.
