Publish Date: 2006-10-01
Features: Guided by theories of comparative advantage, competitive advantage, and innovation, this book integrates research methods from economic geography and regional economics. From macro to meso to micro scales, with empirical analysis and case studies as the main focus, it first constructs a theoretical framework and evaluation model for assessing the competitiveness of regional manufacturing in China, based on theories of the coordinated development of regional manufacturing competitiveness. This is achieved by understanding the connotation of regional manufacturing competitiveness, summarizing and analyzing the main factors influencing it, and adhering to principles of scientific rigor, representativeness, and operability. The book then classifies the competitiveness of regional manufacturing in China at the provincial level from both static and dynamic perspectives, as well as through an analysis of internal competitiveness structures, revealing its temporal changes and spatial differentiation patterns. It further examines the coupling mechanisms between regional manufacturing competitiveness at different spatial scales and its driving factors, comparing the spatiotemporal manifestations of these factors and their relationship with the comprehensive competitiveness of manufacturing across different regional contexts. Finally, through case studies of typical regions at the meso level and enterprise interviews at the micro level—taking Northeast China, Wuhan City in Hubei Province, Chaoyang District in Beijing, and Feicheng City in Shandong Province as examples—the book provides a scientific diagnosis of the manufacturing competitiveness in these regions, revealing the interactive effects between comprehensive manufacturing competitiveness and its driving factors. It further summarizes the pathways and models for cultivating manufacturing competitiveness in different regions. This book is suitable for researchers, managers, and decision-makers in fields such as economic geography, industrial geography, industrial economics, regional economics, and regional development and planning. It can also serve as a reference for faculty and students in relevant disciplines at universities.
