The principle is one poem with one commentary article, but some works are discussed together. The book uses simplified characters, with traditional characters or variant characters used when ambiguity arises. Difficult terms or sentences in poems are generally explained in the commentary articles, with occasional annotations at the end of the text. Historical dates related to ancient history are generally written in the old calendar system, with the corresponding Gregorian calendar dates included in parentheses. The "year" is usually omitted in the parenthetical Gregorian calendar dates.
