Features: Based on the needs of teaching in China's secondary tourism professional schools, this textbook "Introduction to Tourism" was compiled by referring to relevant tourism literature both domestically and internationally. The textbook starts from the perspective of human tourism activities, introducing the historical evolution and current state of tourism to explain the basic laws of tourism development. It elaborates on the main components of tourism activities and the tourism industry, as well as their relationships. It also introduces the basic conditions of China's tourism industry development, enabling students to gain a comprehensive and thorough understanding of the fundamental knowledge and theories of tourism studies and the tourism industry. The textbook is divided into seven chapters.
Chapter 1 mainly introduces the definition of tourism, the nature and characteristics of tourism activities, and the classification of tourism activities.
Chapter 2 primarily discusses the emergence and evolution of human travel and tourism activities from the perspective of historical materialism, explaining that travel and tourism are products of social and economic development at a certain stage and evolve with the development of society. It also introduces major events and figures in the historical development of tourism and the characteristics of travel and tourism activities in different historical periods.
Chapter 3 focuses on elaborating the systematic composition of tourism activities, including the concepts, basic knowledge, and theories of tourists, tourism resources, and the tourism industry. Through these introductions, students will understand the interrelationships of these three aspects in the composition of tourism activities.
Chapter 4 aims to introduce the main industry components of the tourism industry and, combining the development practices of tourism industries both domestically and internationally, explain the roles and current development status of travel agencies, tourism transportation, the hotel industry, and tourism attractions in the tourism industry.
Chapter 5 revolves around the needs of tourism marketing and mainly introduces the concept of tourism products and their distinguishing features from manufactured products. It elaborates on the importance of the source market for the operation of the tourism industry. While introducing the distribution pattern of the global tourism market and the basic flow rules, it focuses on discussing China's inbound tourism market, domestic tourism market, and outbound tourism market. The last section of this chapter mainly introduces the basic knowledge of tourism market research.
Chapter 6 primarily introduces the administrative system of China's tourism industry, introduces China's policies and strategies for developing tourism, and provides a general elaboration on the issue of cultivating tourism talents.
Chapter 7 mainly discusses the economic, social, cultural, and environmental impacts of tourism activities and the tourism industry on tourist destinations and introduces the basic knowledge of sustainable tourism development.
