Features: This is the fourth edition of the Oxford Textbook of Psychiatry. The current edition provides a concise account of clinical psychiatry, intended as a basic textbook for psychiatry trainees and as an advanced textbook for medical and clinical psychology students, general practitioners, and other professionals who need psychiatric knowledge in their work. The text and references throughout the book have been extensively revised, with new content added on evidence-based psychiatry and two new chapters on Ethics and Law. The latter chapter includes new material on ethics and revised content on legal matters. Previously, the legal aspects were discussed in other chapters. Topics previously related to dissociative disorders and somatoform disorders were placed in separate chapters but are now combined into a new chapter. Chapter 2 has been renamed Assessment and expanded in scope, covering assessments in both community psychiatry and hospital practice. We have tried to retain the style of the earlier editions, using lists and other methods to present the material in a clear and concise manner.
