Features: The entries in this dictionary include basic English words, general words, loanwords, abbreviations, affixes, compound morphemes, names of organizations, and terms from social sciences and natural sciences. A complete entry in this dictionary may contain the following elements: headword, part of speech, definition, examples, idioms, cross-references, and notes. Most entries do not include all of the above elements; the main parts of an entry are the headword, part of speech, and definition. Entries are arranged in alphabetical order by headword. Words with the same spelling but different etymologies or meanings are treated as separate entries, marked with numbers (1, 2, 3, etc.) in the upper right corner of the headword. Headwords can be single words, compound words, phrases, abbreviations, affixes, or compound morphemes. Headwords are printed in black bold type. If a headword has multiple spellings, only the most common one or a few are listed. The spelling forms of headwords are generally in American English. When a singular noun headword is defined in a way that requires a plural form in the definition, it should be noted before the definition. Abbreviation headwords may only include the full form without a Chinese translation, directing readers to the full form entry; or they may include the full form followed by a Chinese translation.
