Spirit of the Times (Library of the Century)

Author: (German) Karl Jaspers, translated by Wang Defeng
Publisher:
Publication Date: 2005-05-01
Features: This book was written in 1930. At that time, although the author had a good understanding of fascism, he knew almost nothing about Nazism. When the author was still pleased with the completion of the manuscript, he was greatly shocked to hear that the Nazi Party had won the initial victory in the 1930 elections. The manuscript was put aside for a year. Because I didn’t want it to be published in my three-volume Philosophy. Philosophy was published in 1931. A few weeks after its publication, this book was also released. To illustrate that era, the author used only factual materials that belonged to those special years, and thus this book is infected with the atmosphere of the time in many aspects. Although many things have happened since its publication, if we consider the current state of philosophy and the world situation, the author believes that it is as effective now as it was then. The author was a German existentialist philosopher who advocated that philosophy is a subjective interpretation of existence, believed that philosophy should call for human freedom, should focus on human existence, and regard it as the core of all reality. This book is one of his important works.
