Doctor's answer:

Hello, for most couples, sexual life is enjoyable both physically and mentally, but many women view sexual intercourse as a daunting prospect due to coital pain.
The characteristics of coital pain include: localized pain in the vagina or lower abdomen; severe and recurrent pain that often subsides several hours after intercourse; but sometimes pain may not appear until several hours after intercourse.
There are many causes of coital pain, and sometimes it can be the result of multiple factors interacting. The organic lesions that cause coital pain mainly include retroverted uterus, cervical polyps, genital inflammation (such as vulvitis, vaginitis, pelvic inflammatory disease, etc.), pelvic tumors, endometriosis, hemorrhoids, vulvar laceration, poor healing of episiotomy wounds, vulvar dryness, urethral papillae, rigid hymen, or hymen atresia, and so on. These pathological factors need to be treated according to the examination results. At the same time, psychological comfort is also necessary, as even after the organic lesions are cured, mental tension can still affect sexual life.
Some coital pain is caused by allergic reactions, as some women are highly sensitive to male semen and contraceptive tools such as vaginal and condoms. Upon contact, they may experience allergic reactions in the perineum or even the entire body, which can lead to lower abdominal pain during intercourse. Changing the contraceptive method can gradually alleviate or eliminate the symptoms.
Sometimes, pain is caused by the male inserting into the female's vagina without adequate lubrication in a rough manner; or excessive force used by the male may compress the abdomen, increasing intra-abdominal pressure and affecting the movement of the uterus, bladder, and intestines, even causing reverse peristalsis in the intestines, leading to intermittent abdominal pain.
