Features: Meng Sen (1868-1937), styled Chensun, penname Xinshi, styled Yanghu Jiyi. Born in Wujin, Jiangsu. A master of Ming-Qing history. He graduated from Jiangyin Nanqing College in his early years and studied abroad at Tokyo Imperial University of Law and Politics. After returning to China, he joined Zheng Xiaoxu’s Guangxi Military Preparatory Office. In 1905, he co-founded the Preparatory Committee for Constitutional Monarchy with Zheng Gong. In 1908, he became the editor-in-chief of Oriental Magazine. In May 1909, he was elected as a member of the Jiangsu Consultative Council. In 1912, he was appointed as a working member of the Republican Party. In January 1913, he was elected as a member of the House of Representatives in the National Assembly, and in July, he was selected as a constitutional drafting committee member. The following November, the National Assembly was dissolved, and he gradually withdrew from politics, focusing on Ming-Qing history research. In 1929, he was appointed as a professor at the History Department of Nanjing Central University, teaching Qing history courses. In 1931, he was invited as a professor and director of the History Department at Peking University, teaching the history of Manchu founding until the July 7 Incident. This book is a collection of essays on Ming-Qing history, titled Collected Works on Ming-Qing History, comprising forty-four articles.
