Hello:Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is most suitable for treating benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in Stage I (see Q140), and a portion of Stage II can also be treated. There is no particularly effective method for sitz baths.
Here are a few dietary formulas:
(1) Damp-Heat Accumulation Type
Symptoms include difficulty urinating with dribbling, or very little urine that is short, dark, and scalding, making urination difficult; lower abdominal distension; bitter and sticky mouth, or thirst without desire to drink; or difficult bowel movements; red tongue with yellow greasy coating on the root; rapid pulse.
Treatment should focus on clearing heat and draining dampness, promoting urination.
Formula: Modified Bazi San.
- Wood Gentian 10g, Plantain 10g, Winter Melon Seeds 12g, Pennycress 10g, ? 10g, Polished Gypsum 20g, Stone Vine 10g, Rhubarb 4g, Achyranthes 10g.
(2) Yin Deficiency with Excess Fire Type
Symptoms include frequent urination with difficulty urinating, intermittent attacks, worsening with exertion, long-lasting without improvement, accompanied by dizziness, tinnitus, five-palm heat, dry mouth and constipation; red tongue with thin coating; thready and rapid pulse.
Treatment should focus on nourishing yin and subduing fire, tonifying the kidneys and consolidating essence.
Formula: Er Hai Di Huang Tang.
- Raw and Cooked Rehmannia 10g, Cornus 10g, Poria 10g, Achyranthes 10g, Anemarrhena 10g, Phellodendron 9g, Alisma 10g, laminaria 10g, Fucus 10g, Moutan 10g, Plantain 15g.
(3) Kidney Yang Deficiency Type
Symptoms include difficulty urinating or unsatisfactory dribbling, weak urination; pale complexion; weak spirit; aversion to cold and limbs cold; soreness and weakness of waist and knees; pale tongue with thin white coating; deep, thready, and weak pulse on the side.
Treatment should focus on warming yang and tonifying qi, tonifying the kidneys and promoting urination.
Formula: Modified Jisheng Shenqi Wan.
