Features: The history of the Beijing Department of Philosophy, in a sense, is the history of the development of the discipline of modern Chinese philosophy. At first, although the Department of Philosophy nominally had three directions—Chinese Philosophy, Western Philosophy, and Indian Philosophy—there was actually only the Chinese Philosophy direction. After ninety years of development, the Department of Philosophy now has eight disciplines, including Chinese Philosophy, Western Philosophy, Marxist Philosophy, Aesthetics, Logic, Ethics, Philosophy of Science, and Religious Studies, with nine teaching and research offices. In the 2003 National Evaluation of Graduate Education conducted by the National Graduate Education Center, the Peking University Department of Philosophy ranked , which fully demonstrates its important position in the field of Chinese philosophy.
