Does orchitis affect sexual function?

Patient's question:

The other day, I noticed pain in the testicular area, which became more pronounced after sexual activity. When I went to the hospital for a check-up, they said it was epididymitis and that it needed to be treated promptly. After hearing this, I became very worried. Will this condition affect sexual function after treatment? Will it lead to infertility? Are there any traditional Chinese medicine or dietary therapies available?

Doctor's answer:

Hello, the epididymis is the place where sperm grows and develops. Therefore, it is important to actively treat epididymitis to avoid adverse consequences. Epididymitis is a common inflammation of the male reproductive system, usually caused by Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. It is divided into acute and chronic types, with clinical treatment primarily focusing on anti-inflammatory and local therapies. Acute cases typically heal within 7-10 days. Chronic cases depend on specific conditions. Generally, the prognosis is quite good. After treatment, there will be no impact!
When suffering from acute epididymitis, sexual activity should be avoided. Since the epididymis is in a congested, edematous inflammatory state, sexual intercourse causes widespread congestion in the penis, which can worsen the swelling of the epididymis and hinder inflammation resolution.
