About the Author: Wang Zhengyi is a professor and doctoral supervisor at the School of International Relations, Peking University. He primarily engages in teaching and research on international political economy theory, geopolitical and political economy theory, geopolitical and political economy, political economy of development and transformation, political economy of transnational investment, regionalization in the Asia-Pacific and China's political economy, and the international system of East Asia and the reconstruction of Chinese society. His representative works include: Modern Political Geography (Nankai University Press, 1993), Development in the Periphery: World-Systems and Southeast Asian Development (Shanghai People's Publishing House, 1997), and World-Systems Theory and China (Commercial Press, 2000). His representative papers include: "National Interest as a Mutually Constraining Legitimacy Interest" (1997), "Why Is the East Asian International System Possible?" (1997), "Inheritor Transfer: A Dilemma in Reconstructing Chinese Social Reality" (1998), "Industrial Distribution Channels in the People's Republic of China Market" (1999), and "Contending Regional Identity in East Asia: Market-Led, Institutions, or Social Reconstruction" (2002).
