Patient's question:
Detailed medical condition and consultation purpose: I have had balanitis for over two months! The medication has not shown any improvement.Onset and duration of the current illness: The condition started at the end of August. There were red spots on the glans and ulcers on the foreskin. A hospital examination confirmed balanoposthitis. After using Eflisasa externally for a week, I felt some improvement, but after using it for five more days due to drinking, the same symptoms returned. The foreskin became red, swollen, and itchy. I used Eflisasa again, which improved until October 26, when it recurred. A hospital examination revealed no fungal infection, and the doctor prescribed Pramesine and another medication called something like Xili. However, after applying Pramesine for six days, the foreskin became red and swollen, so I stopped using it immediately. But now the foreskin is hard and has developed...
Doctor's answer:
Hello: External treatments for balanoposthitis:(1) Trichomoniasis balanitis: 0.5%–1% lactic acid solution, 0.5% acetic acid solution, or 1:5000 potassium permanganate solution can be used to rinse the glans and inner foreskin.
(2) Candida balanoposthitis: Baking soda solution can be used to clean the affected area, or imidazole creams such as Daktarin cream or clotrimazole cream can be applied externally.
(3) Dandelion wash: Take 30g of dandelion, 30g of chrysanthemum, and 10g of, decoct and use externally to wash the affected area once a day, with each application lasting about 20 minutes.
(4) Gentian powder: The main ingredient is gentian. Take an appropriate amount of gentian powder, add a little water, and mix into a paste. Apply externally to the affected area once a day.
(5) Bacterial balanoposthitis: 200mL of 3% boric acid solution or 0.1% rivanol solution can be used to rinse the affected area twice a day, with each application lasting 20 minutes.
Prevention and care for balanoposthitis:
(1) Pay attention to local hygiene, clean the glans and foreskin daily. If the foreskin is too long, seek treatment promptly, and consider circumcision if necessary. It is very important to clean the smegma regularly.
(2) If one partner has a genital disease, sexual activity should be temporarily avoided, and prompt treatment is needed. If the infection is trichomoniasis or candidiasis, both partners should be treated simultaneously.
(3) Avoid unsafe sex and maintain a clean lifestyle.
(4) If ulcers or erosion form, change the medication promptly, twice a day, to avoid discomforting irritation.
(5) For acute balanoposthitis, avoid using corticosteroid creams to prevent more severe complications.
