Publishing Date: 2006-08-13
Features: This book is one of the "Collected Notes on Qing Dynasty Historical Materials," divided into three volumes (Upper, Middle, and Lower), combining "Secrets of the Qing," "Continuation of Secrets of the Qing," and "Further Continuation of Secrets of the Qing." "Secrets of the Qing" was compiled by Qing Dynasty scholar Fa Shishan and is a specialized work documenting the imperial examinations of the Qing Dynasty. The sections on local and provincial examiners and co-examiners record the names, origins, and backgrounds of examiners from the Shunzhi to Jiaqing reigns, as well as the surnames, origins, and backgrounds of provincial and palace champions. The section on provincial education officers describes the evolution of the role of provincial education officers in the Qing Dynasty, along with their names, courtesy names, origins, backgrounds, and terms of office. The book covers records up to the fourth year of the Jiaqing reign. Therefore, later scholars compiled "Continuation of Secrets of the Qing" and "Further Continuation of Secrets of the Qing." Both books follow the same format as the original, covering the years from the fifth year of the Jiaqing reign to the thirteenth year of the Guangxu reign and from the fourteenth year to the thirtieth year of the Guangxu reign, respectively.
