Features: This book was first published in the 22nd year of the Qianlong reign (1757) of the Qing Dynasty. There were reprints in the 43rd year (1778) and the 53rd year (1788) of the Qianlong reign, followed by a re-engraving by Renhe Tang in the 60th year (1795) of the Qianlong reign, and an expanded edition by Shuyetang in the 11th year (1806) of the Jiaqing reign. Subsequent editions were published during the Daoguang, Xianfeng, Tongzhi, and Guangxu reigns. Reprints also appeared during the Republic of China and after the liberation. All these editions contained the same content as the Jiaqing expanded edition. The Jiaqing expanded edition includes 720 medicinal substances, nearly 50 more than the Qianlong edition, with increased content in both main formulas and supplementary notes. The Compendium of Materia Medica is divided into 6 volumes, each further divided into three sub-volumes (upper, middle, and lower), totaling 18 volumes. It includes over 670 medicinal substances and over 210 additional substances (including those not listed separately). This work is a pharmaceutical treatise revised and expanded based on Wang Ang's Compendium of Materia Medica. It also discusses the authenticity of drugs, variations in properties and functions for drugs with the same name, and preparation methods. The classification of the book follows the Compendium of Materia Medica, making it concise and practical. This book has been widely circulated in modern pharmacological literature and holds certain value for study and clinical reference.
