Features: This textbook aims to provide MBA students and related professional learners in China with a set of guided learning materials centered on reading, organically integrating various skills for business English communication. The guiding philosophy of this textbook is:
· Student-centered approach: Teachers guide students into the learning process through designed tasks, fully utilizing their existing knowledge and experience while helping them recognize gaps. It encourages communication both inside and outside the classroom, facilitating learning through interaction to achieve better learning outcomes;
· Reading-centered approach: Organically combining listening, speaking, reading, and writing activities, while also developing students' abilities to search for literature based on their professional needs, discuss business-related issues with peers in English, summarize and synthesize information in English, and deliver business presentations in English, as well as write standardized business documents in English;
· Content-based approach: Materials are organized by themes, providing students with opportunities to communicate in business English and professional English. In addition to sequential lesson-by-lesson teaching, teachers and students can flexibly select content as needed, or supplement articles to delve deeper into the latest hot topics of a particular theme.
This textbook consists of fifteen units, including an introductory unit. The other fourteen units each focus on a communication theme, featuring two distinct language materials—texts. The first page of each unit briefly outlines the learning objectives. Around each language material, classroom and out-of-class activities are arranged, including:
- Thematic discussion before reading;
- Background analysis of the theme and material;
- Comprehension and analysis of the theme content during text reading;
- Comprehension and analysis of language points during text reading;
- Discussion of business English or professional English communication methods during text reading;
- Post-reading application of learning points in either single or integrated forms.
