What is nocturnal emission?

Patient's question:

I have 2 or 3 wet dreams a month. Is this normal?
First follow-up question: Every time I have a wet dream, it's related to sex. I always wake up each time. It usually happens around midnight, and I feel a bit weak and sore in my lower back when I wake up in the morning. How does this relate to what the doctor said—that I have tinnitus, which might be related to kidney deficiency?

Doctor's answer:

Hello: It should be normal. Ejaculation can occur during sleep, and the content of the dream may be related to sex or may have nothing to do with sex. When you wake up, the semen has already leaked out. This phenomenon is called nocturnal emission.
Nocturnal emission is a type of ejaculation. Infrequent ejaculation is a normal phenomenon, so infrequent nocturnal emission is not considered a disease. However, nocturnal emission is often accompanied by waking up from a dream, causing mental tension and easily leading to psychological burdens. Symptoms such as insomnia, headaches, dizziness, lack of energy, poor appetite, and fatigue may occur, which is then referred to as "ejaculation disorder." If you experience this, don't worry excessively. Engage in more cultural and sports activities, maintain a regular lifestyle, distract your mind, avoid reading erotic novels before bed, build confidence, and it should resolve on its own. Otherwise, seek medical treatment.
