How to treat secondary varicocele

Patient's question:

I've been trying to have a child for the past two years, but haven't been successful. During a detailed medical examination at the hospital, the doctor said I have varicocele on my left side. However, it's mild, and the right side is normal. Do I still need surgical treatment? If I don't have surgery, will I still be unable to have a child? What should I do? Grade II varicocele on the left side?

Doctor's answer:

1. High incidence of left varicocele. Those without symptoms or with mild symptoms can wear elastic pants or use a scrotal support. Men with severe symptoms and varicocele accompanied by sperm abnormalities should undergo surgical treatment. The surgical procedure involves high ligation of the internal spermatic vein. Your condition has already affected sperm quality, so it is recommended to have surgery as soon as possible.
2. It is recommended to seek treatment at a more specialized hospital. Mild varicocele generally does not pose a significant problem and does not require surgery. Conservative treatment is sufficient, and it will never affect fertility. However, medication can only alleviate symptoms and does not provide a cure, so if symptoms are present, medication can be taken. If there are no symptoms, medication is unnecessary. Severe varicocele may require surgery, and surgery is the only treatment method.
