Publish Date: 2003-03-01
Features: Professor Fang Guoyu was a renowned historian, ethnologist, linguist, and educator. He was a pioneer in the study of Southwest ethnic history and a founder of Yunnan local history, leaving behind substantial academic achievements. This book collects a large number of his writings that were not previously published or compiled, divided into five volumes. Volume I includes several theoretical articles from his later years and works on the period from the Pre-Qin to the Jin Dynasty; Volume II contains works on the Tang and Song dynasties; Volume III features works on the Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties; Volume IV presents research in epigraphy, ethnology, and historical geography; Volume V includes his linguistic and phonological studies from before the age of thirty. Professor Fang's three-volume work, Lecture Notes on the History of Yunnan Ethnic Groups, written in the 1950s, was too extensive to be included in this collection and will be published as a separate book in the future. The articles in this collection are printed as they were originally published in newspapers or based on Professor Fang's manuscripts and typed copies, with only minor corrections made for obvious typographical errors. Many of Professor Fang's manuscripts and typed copies lack punctuation, so for the convenience of readers, the editors have added punctuation marks.
