Features: To comprehensively and correctly understand capitalism in order to learn from and absorb all the civilized achievements of capitalist society and build a socialism superior to capitalism, the "Contemporary Capitalism Research Series" was published. This series primarily translates works by foreign scholars on various aspects of contemporary capitalism, and will also introduce research by Chinese scholars on contemporary capitalism when appropriate. By knowing ourselves as well as others, we can accelerate our development and gain mastery in the world development landscape of the coming new century, placing us in a more advantageous position. This book discusses how Western capitalism, for its own development and to combat communism, continuously reforms, adjusts, and innovates its internal mechanisms, creating the "Golden Age of Capitalism." It analyzes the shortcomings of the planned economy system in the former Soviet Union and Eastern European socialist countries. It argues for the strengths and weaknesses of several capitalist models in the world today and advocates for the future world economy to choose "social capitalism." It issues a warning against the dangers of extreme free-market methods: "If people's lives are left to the whims of the free market, capitalism could truly become a dangerous specter."
