Features: This book primarily discusses the need for contemporary Chinese intellectuals, including writers, to confront reality, engage with grassroots life, transcend limitations, and seek spiritual roots. Unlike some current literary theoretical studies that detach from literary creation and literary criticism, the author's literary theoretical research is closely integrated with the realities of current literary creation and literary criticism. It offers both a comprehensive grasp of contemporary literature and clear value judgments. The literary criticism of young literary theorist Xiong Yuanyi has a significant influence in the literary world and the broader field of intellectual and cultural circles. The reason lies in the fact that his literary criticism goes beyond the mere level of literature. When commenting on specific writers, works, and literary phenomena, Xiong Yuanyi skillfully raises cultural and philosophical issues and conducts theoretical analysis and grasping, demonstrating strong intellectual penetration.
In the mid-to-late 1990s, faced with the complex social reality and the diverse opinions in literary criticism circles under such circumstances, people felt bewildered and uncertain. Xiong Yuanyi, with a bird's-eye view, conducted in-depth analysis and grasped the essence of the objects, summarizing the three major factions in current literary criticism from the dialectical relationship between ideal and reality and the perspective of human existence: first, the nihilistic view of existence that completely denies reality; second, the vulgar view of existence that fully endorses reality; and third, the scientific view of existence that dialectically grasps reality. The three views of existence summarized by Xiong Yuanyi provide a philosophical understanding of the different trends in the current literary criticism scene.
