How to treat semen that does not liquefy

Patient's question:

A distant relative of a colleague has been frequently encountering him at the hospital recently. He used to be childless and had been divorced from his wife for almost two decades. His current condition is that his semen does not liquefy, which prevents his wife from giving birth normally. Therefore, he has been undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Doctor's answer:

Traditional Chinese Medicine believes that the reason for semen liquefaction disorders is rooted in the Liver and Kidney. If Yin deficiency occurs, it generates internal heat, depleting the semen; or if the original Qi is weak, the Kidney essence is severely deficient; or if Liver stagnation transforms into fire, it agitates the semen chamber, all of which can affect the normal vaporization of semen, leading to infertility. Semen liquefaction disorders are often caused by cold congelation, heat consumption, phlegm obstruction, or blood stasis. The common etiology and pathogenesis include the following types:
1. Congenital deficiency of Kidney Yang, or malnutrition in later life, severe illness causing physical weakness, or external invasion of cold pathogens damaging Kidney Yang, all of which can cause semen to congeal due to cold, preventing it from vaporizing.
2. Excessive indulgence in alcohol, sex, and sexual activity, frequent exhausting emissions, or excessive mental strain, or the transformation of the five emotions into fire, can all deplete Kidney Yin. Yin deficiency with excess fire scalds body fluids, making the semen thick and unliquefiable.
