What should I do if I get balanitis?

Patient's question:

In the morning, while urinating, I noticed that my glans was slightly red and swollen, and it looked like there were small white patches on it. I was terrified, thinking I had some incurable disease. I quickly went to the hospital for a thorough examination. After the doctor's diagnosis, he said I had balanitis.

Doctor's answer:

Balanoposthitis refers to the inflammation of the inner foreskin and glans penis.
1 Maintain local cleanliness to prevent secondary infection. Local can be soaked in 1/5000 potassium permanganate solution and apply anti-inflammatory ointment. Allergic balanoposthitis requires oral antihistamines and topical corticosteroid ointments.
2 For exudative and purulent discharge, use 3% boric acid solution or 0.1% phenol wet dressing.
3 Non-infectious subacute phase can be treated with corticosteroid cream.
4 In chronic phase or dry scaling, use tetracycline and corticosteroid ointment.
5 If it is clearly infectious, with fever and swollen lymph nodes, systemic antibiotics can be used, orally 3–4 times/day.
6 Circumcision: If phimosis or foreskin edema makes it difficult to move for soaking or drainage is poor, and inflammation does not subside after general treatment, circumferential incision of the foreskin may be performed to facilitate drainage.
