Features: "These beautiful existences can evoke special feelings in the eyes of architectural aesthetes. Beyond 'poetic' and 'painterly' qualities, they also bring a sense of 'architectural essence' pleasure. In the soul of any ancient city gate or the ruins of a dilapidated temple foundation, there is an invisible storytelling, even singing, of the unbelievable changes in time—from gentle tales of romance to bloodshed. The 'essence' they convey is indeed 'poetry' and 'painting.' However, architects must solemnly declare that there is also an 'essence' beyond 'poetry' and 'painting.'" These are the words of Mr. Liang Sicheng in the preface to Architectural Essence. Indeed, architecture, like painting, music, and other art forms, is a more tangible and spatial art that inherently holds profound meaning, much like 'poetic' and 'painterly' qualities. In the heart of Editor-in-Chief Xiao Mo, there has always been a desire: to create a architectural magazine that is not too professional, not too dry, and accessible to the general public, allowing them to experience the joy of appreciating architecture while also carrying a timeless academic depth. Xiao Mo said that after careful consideration, we decided to adopt the term 'Architectural Essence' proposed by Mr. Liang Sicheng as the name of the magazine. In reality, it serves as a reminder to everyone that architecture is not just the haphazard stacking of bricks, mortar, sand, stones, and other materials—it is not merely a material product but also a spiritual one. The profound essence within it is akin to 'poetic' and 'painterly' qualities, though its expression adopts the unique artistic language of architecture. This book focuses on architectural culture, art, and history, introducing world-class architectural masterpieces, evaluating history and current realities, and exploring creation and theory. It integrates humanity, academia, and art, fully revealing the profound meaning behind the saying, "Architecture is solidified art."
