Readers of the previous edition will find that our goals remain the same as the previous version. However, all materials retained from the second edition have been updated, and careful editing has been conducted to enhance readability. The current Chapter 2 includes discussions and comparisons on global human resource management, which were placed in the last chapter of the previous edition. We have renamed and rewritten Chapter 3, providing a comprehensive and novel discussion on the current human resource management environment. The current Chapter 4 includes new topics on post-Fordist organizations, such as flexibility, post-bureaucratic work design, and the development trends of knowledge work. In Chapter 6, we revisit the topic of flexibility while also discussing new aspects of e-human resource management. The testing and evaluation center arrangements have been moved to Chapter 7 in the new edition. Chapter 10 expands the discussion on on-the-job learning, not only including knowledge management and e-learning but also new materials on skills. Chapters 11 and 12 have also been renamed, now including content on indirect employee involvement and partnership strategies.
Given the increasing importance of value delivery in business, this edition adds a chapter on the evaluation of human resource management, discussing different methods for researching and evaluating human resource strategies. Additionally, we have updated relevant laws, particularly in Chapters 5, 7, and 12.
Furthermore, we highlight the interactive nature of this book, providing students with more opportunities to check and reinforce their learning while expanding knowledge beyond the textbook. The book introduces thought-provoking questions, learning tips, links to human resource websites, and case studies in human resource management practices to enrich the learning experience.
