Features: In the information age and the knowledge economy era, the popularization of knowledge is more important and urgent than ever before. Language and writing are carriers of information and indispensable tools for the development of human civilization. In the information age, their role is even more significant. Linguistic knowledge encompasses both traditional and new aspects. The popularization of linguistic knowledge needs to be strengthened. We compiled this series of "100 Language and Writing Small Series" precisely to contribute our efforts in this regard. The series is concise, with only a few tens of thousands of words. We strive for quality and conciseness to make it easy for readers to purchase and read. The content of linguistic knowledge is very extensive. If you look at the classification index of the "Great Encyclopedia of China·Language and Writing Volume," you will get a general idea. This series does not provide a comprehensive and systematic introduction to linguistic knowledge but focuses on the various linguistic knowledge people encounter in their studies and daily lives. The quality of the books largely depends on the authors' level of expertise and their understanding and mastery of relevant knowledge. We hope this series is of high quality. Therefore, when inviting contributions, we adopted the approach that whoever has expertise in a particular area is invited to write on that subject. Authors with established research backgrounds naturally handle their writing with ease, ensuring the scientific accuracy of the knowledge presented, and some even introduce cutting-edge knowledge. Introducing the latest research findings to readers in an accessible form is also one of the purposes of this series. This is only a general approach, and implementation is not as simple as it seems. When writing, authors must consider the overall principles of the series' compilation, deciding what to write and how to write it—a new creative process from planning to execution. This series serves the purpose of popularizing linguistic knowledge, yet some content is highly specialized, and some opinions may be the authors' personal views, differing from common societal perspectives. We believe that such content is beneficial for readers' broadening their horizons. The authors of this small series are all highly skilled language and writing professionals, some of whom are renowned scholars with distinguished reputations.
