This book focuses on the extraordinary life of General de Gaulle, depicting his vivid firsthand experiences during World War II in a panoramic manner, fully shaping the image of the "military politician" with his unwavering perseverance and sharp charisma. De Gaulle was born into a middle-class family with noble ancestry but nearly in decline. In his youth, he was passionate about public speaking, reading, and writing, later becoming an ordinary career military officer. However, circumstances created heroes—when World War II broke out, the thunderous and turbulent times brought him into the spotlight like a star piercing the night sky. With his wisdom and personality, he engaged in a series of thrilling struggles with a host of powerful political figures such as Hitler of Germany, Mussolini of Italy, Churchill of Britain, Stalin of the Soviet Union, and Roosevelt of the United States. In the end, he triumphed, illuminating the Free French with the brilliance of his life—The Great Moment.
This is a village with over 500 residents. From afar, one can see lush trees revealing a church with twin and intersecting crosses. Without noise, far removed from the mundane world, only the towering monument symbolizing "Free France" rises beside the church—the Loire Cross, standing atop a small hill at a height of 43 meters, like a giant bearing the sky on his back and standing firmly on the earth, silently yet proudly overlooking all of humanity. At the corner of the small cemetery next to the church lies a rectangular stone slab, less than a foot above the ground, engraved with: "Charles de Gaulle (1890–1970)." Here lies the protagonist of this book, General de Gaulle.
