The comprehensive delimitation work achieved a historic transformation in the management methods of national administrative boundary lines. In Chinese history, this is the first time the central government organized a comprehensive delimitation of provincial and county-level administrative boundary lines; the first time both governments of the boundary lines signed a joint delimitation agreement, which was then approved by the central and provincial governments; the first time standard boundary pillars bearing the name of the Central People's Government were erected on the ground; and the first time a complete set of archives of delimitation achievements for provincial and county-level administrative boundary lines was formed.
The comprehensive delimitation ended China's history of passive, unordered, and extensive management of administrative boundary lines, ushering in a new era of legal, scientific, standardized, and rational management of administrative boundary lines.
