Features: Children are the future of the motherland. Providing them with nutritious spiritual food is a sacred mission for every writer, editor, and publisher. Currently, the market offers a wide variety of children's books, especially storybooks, which are particularly popular among young readers. To meet the need for children to quickly understand classic stories, we have specially edited and published this Essential Stories for Primary School Students. This book collects over 2,000 fairy tales, folk tales, fables, idiomatic stories, and historical stories recommended by the new curriculum standards. These are classic stories selected from the treasure troves of Chinese and foreign cultural knowledge by renowned editing experts—either famous works by celebrated authors, widely circulated folk oral creations, or renowned pieces from historical records. Examples include: in fairy tales, Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Match Girl, The Little Mermaid, and Thumbelina, and the works of the Brothers Grimm from Germany, such as The Wolf and the Seven Little Goats and The Cat in Boots. From China, there are works by writers like Ye Shengtao (The Weaver Girl) and Yan Wenjing (The Story of the Earthworm and the Bee). Most of the stories in this book are adapted versions, with the principle of staying true to the original plot while appropriately enriching the storyline and ensuring clear and fluent language. Adaptation is a laborious and often thankless task, but we approached it with a sense of responsibility to both the authors and the readers, undertaking a creative reimagining. We hope young readers will find beauty in fairy tales, practical wisdom in folk tales, profound lessons in fables, and understanding the origins and usage of idioms. Historical stories are meant to inspire a spirit of positivity and vitality. If this book becomes a true friend to young children, it will bring us great comfort. All the stories in this book are accompanied by multiple exquisite cartoon illustrations, which help readers follow the narratives and enhance their interest through the combination of text and images.
