This is because his calligraphy embodies all the finest qualities, is unparalleled, reaches the pinnacle of perfection, and has influenced the development of calligraphy in every dynasty after the Southern and Northern Dynasties. Due to the fact that most famous calligraphy scrolls were stored in imperial collections or in the hands of private collectors in the past, ordinary people rarely had the chance to see them. Even today, although some single scrolls of Wang Xizhi's calligraphy have been published, there is still a lack of a systematic, comprehensive, and practical collection of Wang Xizhi's personal works that is easy to compare and collect. Therefore, we have attempted to select the finest pieces from well-known calligraphy scrolls that contain a large number of Wang Xizhi's works, such as the Song-era rubbings of the Chunhua Pavilion Collection, Da Guan Collection, Jiang Tie, Tan Tie, Ding Tie, Xiyutang Collection, and Sixty Scrolls of Wang Xizhi, among others. Additionally, we have gathered rare and isolated scrolls, single pieces, or engraved works that were overlooked after the Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties, supplemented by Tang-era copies, and organized them into categories for comparison and collection. This is a carefully curated collection of Wang Xizhi's calligraphy. The main scrolls used in this book were selected from scattered and damaged ancient calligraphy scrolls, supplemented by a small number of famous scrolls that have been published since the liberation. They have been compiled and organized into this volume to promote the study and research of Wang Xizhi's calligraphy, serving as a reference for calligraphy enthusiasts.
