What are the causes of infantile cerebral palsy?

Patient's question:

My sister's child has been born for three months. He doesn't have much energy when eating milk, even lacks sound when laughing, and his neck appears stiff, often tilting to one side. He also moves a lot. My sister took him to the hospital, and the doctor said he has cerebral palsy. My sister and her husband are both healthy. What are the causes of cerebral palsy?

Doctor's answer:

There are many causes of cerebral palsy, but it may be more than 1/3. In some cases, there may be multiple factors involved. Antenatal factors are the most common, including genetic and chromosomal diseases, congenital infections, brain malformations or developmental abnormalities, fetal brain ischemia and hypoxia. Periventricular leukomalacia or basal ganglia damage. Perinatal factors refer to brain damage that occurs within one week of delivery, including cerebral edema, neonatal shock, brain hemorrhage, sepsis, or central nervous system infection.
