Patient's question:

My sister's child suffers from infantile cerebral palsy. The child is over 12 months old, but now they cannot even sit up. The family is very worried. When they go to the community, they see other children running, and then they realize it's time to go to the hospital. They only then found out that the child has infantile cerebral palsy and have been to many hospitals! What is infantile cerebral palsy, and can it be treated?

Doctor's answer:

Cerebral palsy, also known as CP, typically refers to a group of central motor disorders caused by non-progressive brain damage or various reasons leading to abnormal brain development from birth to one month after birth. Clinically, it is characterized by abnormal postures and muscle tone, muscle weakness, involuntary movements, and ataxia. It is often accompanied by sensory, cognitive, communication, behavioral disorders, and secondary skeletal muscle abnormalities, and may also involve seizures.
