The author of this book is Yao Xueyin (1910-1999), originally named Yao Guansan, from Deng County, Henan. In 1929, he enrolled in the preparatory department of Henan University but was expelled for participating in student movements. Before and during the War of Resistance Against Japan, he wrote novels such as "Half a Cartload of Wheat," "Niu Quande and the Carrot," "When Spring Blossoms," and "The Long Night." He served as a council member of the All-China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, an associate professor at Northeast University, and a professor at Shanghai Da Xia University. After the liberation, he held positions such as Chairman of the Hubei Provincial Federation of Literary and Art Circles and a member of the Fifth National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. In 1963, he published the first volume of the long historical novel "Li Zicheng." More than two decades later, the five-volume novel was finally completed.
