Features: In the University Japanese Level 4 Examination and Graduate Entrance Examination, the essay test in subjective questions holds a unique position. As the direct and most important test item for assessing candidates' comprehensive language proficiency, it cannot rely on luck compared to objective questions. Although there are similarities with native language essays in terms of brainstorming and outlining, unavoidable problems in vocabulary and grammar inevitably arise during the writing process. Blindly copying or applying the approach of native language essays is unlikely to work and may even backfire. The essay test section of this book consists of two parts: Basic and Practice. The Basic part (Chapters 1–7) focuses on material accumulation. It guides readers on how to categorize and collect materials, as well as how to process them into fragments, based on specific content and topics. Additionally, the key principles, precautions, and common issues of Japanese writing are summarized and organized into writing techniques. The Practice part (Chapters 8–15) focuses on hands-on exercises. It guides candidates on how to reasonably integrate and reference collected materials into specific writing practices, based on common and special essay types, as well as the representative question-setting tendencies of various domestic and international exams.
