What are the factors that cause balanitis?

Patient's question:

My husband noticed some red, dot-like clusters on his glans during his bath yesterday, looking like they were about to rot. He said it itches and hurts. Upon careful examination, it was diagnosed as balanitis. What are the causes of balanitis?

Doctor's answer:

Always maintain local cleanliness to prevent secondary infection; ② For serous discharge and sloughing, use 3% boric acid solution or 0.1% Ringer's lactate for wet dressing; ③ For non-infectious subacute stage, use corticosteroid cream; ④ In chronic stage or during dry desquamation, use tetracycline and cortisol ointment; ⑤ If the infection is obvious, with fever and lymph node enlargement, systemic antibiotics can be used, such as cephalexin, 0.5g, orally 3-4 times/day, or ofloxacin, 0.2g, twice daily; ③ For patients with excessive prepuce, circumcision should be performed after the inflammation subsides.
