The "International Business Law" textbook, authored by Shen Daming and Feng Dading, has been officially published since 1980 and has sold over 500,000 copies. As a fundamental legal textbook for institutions of foreign economic and trade, it has played a significant role in teaching practice. It can be said that the influence and role of this textbook have far exceeded the confines of foreign economic and trade campuses, serving its due function in handling countless international trade disputes. It can even be said without exaggeration that the "International Business Law" by Shen and Feng has profoundly influenced generations of students and legal professionals in foreign economic and trade law, establishing a distinct banner in the field of foreign economic and trade legal education.
As students of Professors Shen and Feng, we are now editing the "Selected Cases in English for International Business Law Teaching" as a supplement to their pioneering work. We hope to present the legal concepts and principles of Anglo-American law, as elaborated in their textbook, in a more vivid manner through case studies, thereby serving as a valuable aid in teaching. For law students in China, reading and studying the original judgments made by Anglo-American courts is an indispensable and irreplaceable way to understand foreign law.
First, these cases are closely tied to practice, directly reflecting the attitudes of Anglo-American courts toward various legal issues. Second, with the background of each case, readers can better grasp the meaning of abstract legal provisions and legal theories. Third, to this day, Anglo-American law has become increasingly important and cannot be ignored in the field of international business law. Based on these reasons, we have selected over 50 "authentic" English cases. These cases cover three core areas of international business law: corporate law, contract law, and sales of goods law. All these cases have been carefully chosen, either as recognized authoritative cases or as representative cases. At the same time, this book also includes several legal documents that have a significant impact on today's international trade, for the convenience of reading and teaching.
There is no doubt that reading and thoroughly understanding such English cases and documents is a challenge for everyone. Organizing classroom discussions around them is certainly no easy task. Let our teachers and students work together, encourage one another, and embark on this beneficial attempt and exploration. This book is a required textbook for students applying for master's degrees in law at the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE) and is known as the "grey book." It is also an excellent choice for readers who wish to learn Anglo-American law through case studies.
